2018 LANDER CHILDREN’S MUSEUM SUMMER PROGRAM LISTING

Please call the Museum at 332-1341 for registration and more information. Class sizes are generally limited to 10 students. A limited number of scholarships may be available. All classes will be held at the Lander Children’s Museum at 465 Lincoln St. (unless otherwise stated) www.landerchildrensmuseum.org. Courses are contingent on at least 50% enrollment.

Drone Academy I – Session I

An introduction into the world of UAV and Drone vehicle piloting.  This course covers beginner level skills, vocabulary, and concepts dealing with the operation of unmanned aircraft.  Students will gain the basic knowledge of UAV piloting while mastering entry level piloting skills necessary for becoming a professional FAA licensed Drone Pilot.

Drone Academy I – Session II

An introduction into the world of UAV and Drone vehicle piloting.  This course covers beginner level skills, vocabulary, and concepts dealing with the operation of unmanned aircraft.  Students will gain the basic knowledge of UAV piloting while mastering entry level piloting skills necessary for becoming a professional FAA licensed Drone Pilot.

Crayon Batik

In this project, you will learn how to imitate on paper the fabric decorating technique from Java called batik. The process uses crayons to draw and color a design on white paper, that is then wadded and painted with black to make the cracks that are typical to batiks. You can use the resulting pictures to make cards, decorate notebook covers, or hang on the wall!

Magician’s Apprentice – Session I

Walk through the doorway into the world of illusion.  Come join our master magician lesson and learn the basic steps behind some of the most wondrous magic tricks.  Students will have the opportunity to learn some of today’s best magic tricks, learn how to present and perform illusions, and will explore ways to continue learning about the world of magic.

Date:  June 5 -7

Time:  1:00pm – 3:00pm

Ages:  8 and above

Science Explorers – Session I

Explore birds, bugs, butterflies, flowers, and more in this hands-on program that is sure to leave your little ones in awe of nature!

Date:  June 12 – 14

Time:  9:00am – 11:00am

Ages:  4 – 5

Limit:  10

Fee:    $50 ($40 w/ museum membership)

Science Explorers – Session II

Explore birds, bugs, butterflies, flowers, and more in this hands-on program that is sure to leave your little ones in awe of nature!

Time:  12:00pm – 2:00pm

Ages:  7 -8

Limit:  10

Fee:    $50 ($40 w/ museum membership)

Wetland Warriors –  Service Project (this class will meet at the Baldwin Creek Wetland – 1965 Baldwin Creek Rd. Lander, WY 82520)

As part of a larger, on-going community service project, the participants will explore the Baldwin Creek Wetland area learning about flora and fauna, scat, tracks, and area design. Using pallets; a pallet fence will be designed, created, and installed during this experience.  Adults are welcome to attend. (Donations accepted)

Sticker Creators – Session I

Design, assemble, and create your own personal all-purpose sticker using the vinyl cutting technology.  Students will learn the basics of graphic design as well as explore the technological skills needed in sticker crafting and digital plotting. Customize and assemble your imaginative creation to share with the world!

Work within an innovative video game development platform that allows you to create your own video games. With easy-to-use physical and digital tools, the imaginative gaming worlds of young gamers come to life in a cool retro arcade style. You decide what the game looks like and configure how it is played. You tell the story of the characters and design their looks. You create the obstacles and the power-ups. And then not only can you play, but you can share your game with fellow gamers for both game play and content remixing. If you would like to take your game home please bring an I-pod or I-pad, or tablet to the class – this way you can work on, play, and share you game out of class.
